Jewish Jerusalem

Visit the eternal capital of the Jewish People for 3000 years!

The basic tour plus one of the alternates can fit into a full day.

  • Get the glorious morning view of the city from the Mount of Olives. This majestic site epitomizes the Jewish belief in the coming of the Messiah.

  • Visit Mt. Zion and the tomb of King David.

  • Enter the old city and walk through its Jewish quarter. In our era, this place was lost and re-conquered. The grand Hurva synagogue has been reconstructed recently. From the roof of the Synagogue, the old city and Temple Mount are in full view.

  • Visit the Western Wall and its plaza. Time to delight on this holy site, touch the stones, and pray.

  • Lunch in the old city.

  • Drive to the Knesset, the Israeli parliament building, and the supreme courthouse. These 2 buildings represent Jerusalem as the capital of Israel today.

  • Visit the Mahne-Yehuda Market. A vibrant food market packed with stalls and eateries in the middle of the new city.

One of these sites can also be combined

  • The city of David. Fascinating diggings and discoveries in the city of the Judean kings, where David reigned and Jeremiah prophesied. Optional a visit to the Hezekia tunnel – a 500-meter tunnel dissecting the mountain.

  • Western Wall Tunnels. A visit here brings to life the second temple and the gigantic project of king Herod. Walk beneath the city and touch the huge building stones of the western wall of the temple. Pass the point closest to the holy of holies.

  • Temple Mount. Ascending and entering Temple Mount is possible twice daily, from 8-10 AM and at noon (except Fridays and Saturdays). This is today a Muslim site and clothing must be modest. Viewing of the Muslim sites the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque from outside. We will see the core of the holiness to the Jews and learn of the history and updated knowledge.

  • Israel Museum. The Holy land model shows Jerusalem of the first century AD. The Dead Sea Scrolls are displayed nearby. Learn of their story and significance.

  • Munition Hill. Here was fought a fierce battle during the Six-Day War between the Israelis and the Jordanians. The memorial is dedicated to the battle to unify Jerusalem and liberate its Jewish holy sites.

  • Yad Vashem  The holocaust memorial site is known worldwide. The museum offers a moving experience.

 

 

Can also be added

  • Tomb of Absalom. David's son rebelled against his father. In the Kidron Valley, he was strung from a tree by his hair and killed by David's chief of staff. A beautiful ancient tomb marks the place.

  • Sephardi synagogues. These 4 old synagogues are attached. They tell the story of the Jewish community, which held on in Jerusalem despite the hardships.

  • Christian sites. The room of the last supper, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Via Dolorosa.
